About the Boulé Scholars Program

The Delta Psi Boulé scholars program provides mentoring for high school male students activities aimed at improving academic performance and developing leadership potential for success in college and career pursuits.   The program was launched in 2009 in partnership with Fourth Street Elementary and later with Hilsman Middle School. Currently Delta Psi partners with Cedar Shoals and Oglethorpe County high schools.

Each year 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students participate in mentoring and training activities conducted by members of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity.  Workshop topics include topics such as leadership training, career development, financial literacy, college preparedness and cultural awareness through workshops, field trips, and college tours.

Upon graduation Boulé scholars may qualify for scholarships by achieving at least a B average and admission to an accredited post-secondary institution.  Since 2018 Delta Psi Boule’ has awarded a total of $96,000 in scholarship funds to fourteen students. Several of these college scholars have graduated and are pursuing careers in business, marketing, journalism and other areas.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

Saturday Program

Once a month students attend a program that focuses on mentoring, building self-esteem, life skills development, and public speaking.

Social Program

In addition to the Saturday programming, scholars have an opportunity to go on a number of field trips to allow role modeling and mentoring in a less formal setting.

Rewards Program

Scholars are rewarded for their hard work and participation in the program with a year-end banquet and awards program. Students compete for prizes amongst one another in an essay contest and stock market competition.

SCHOLAR RESPONSIBILITIES

Attire

Scholars are required to wear provided polo shirts with khaki pants and a belt at all Saturday programs. Scholars are also instructed on appropriate attire for social program outings.

Attendance

Scholars are expected to have regular attendance at Saturday Programs and Social Program Outings. For each Saturday Program attended, Scholars earn Boule Bucks which can result in a cash stipend.

Student Portfolio

Scholars complete a portfolio that documents their experience throughout the program.  The students create a narrative of where they see themselves in 10-15 years.

How your donation helps!

Each year Delta Psi Boulé members conduct activities such as field trips and college visits for scholars. We do not ask scholars or their parents to support the cost of these activities. Your contribution helps to cover the expenses associated with these activities.

In the past we have conducted trips to Howard University in Washington including the Library of Congress and the U.S. Capitol and other historic sites. More recently we took scholars to visit the Edmund Pettis Bridge in Selma, Alabama, National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama that commemorates those who were lynched across the United States.  These historical and cultural sites are vital to the educational, social and cultural knowledge of young people.

Each year we plan a college visit for scholars to help them prepare for their college experience.  Over the past ten years we have visited the University of Georgia, Georgia Southern, Morehouse/Spelman, Albany State, Savannah State, Ft. Valley State University, and Alabama A&M.
