On Monday, January 15, 2024, Archons Matthew McRae Jr., Matthew McRae III and Keith McRae volunteered their time and talents with McRae Family Dental to serve Athens and the surrounding communities with their 13th annual “MLK Free Service Day from the Heart.”
At 7:00 a.m. in the crisp, cool,
morning we began registering a multitude of people waiting to receive dental services. We provided service for underserved populations of Athens and Northeast Georgia who were uninsured, unemployed, and homeless. Each patient was offered their choice of dental treatment ranging from cleaning, fillings, and extractions. We provided over $65,000 worth of dental treatment and services to the members of our community. Lives were saved as we partnered with Athens Neighborhood Health who provided medical services including diabetes and blood pressure screenings. Nations Church provided prayer to enhance the spiritual needs of those in attendance. Life South Community Blood Centers provided a blood mobile, and we were able to save more lives with the help of those who donated blood. Thanks to the efforts of the Northeast Georgia Food Bank individuals were also able to take home two bags of non-perishable goods. The Economic Justice Coalition was also on-site registering individuals to vote.
Overall, the 13th Annual MLK Free Service Day from the Heart was a resounding success. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “The time is always right to do what is right.”
