THE HISTORY OF DELTA PSI BOULÉ
of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity
Delta Psi Boulé of Athens, Georgia, was the brainchild of Archon Dr. James E. Carter, III, who was inducted into Alpha Mu Boulé, Augusta, Georgia, in 1975. From 2003-2005 Dr. Carter served as Sire Archon of the Southeast Region. During his tenure, one of his goals was to set apart boulés in four cities: Huntsville, Alabama; Fayetteville, North Carolina; Orangeburg, South Carolina; and Athens, Georgia. After identifying the necessary core group of outstanding professional men in the respective cities, Sire Archon Dr. Carter, Archon Dr. Charles Lamback, and other members from Alpha Mu Boulé came to Athens to proceed with the requisite interest group discussions necessary to set apart a new member boulé. Alpha Mu Boulé served as the official sponsor for the Athens Area Interest Group, and Archon Lamback was appointed to serve as interest group liaison between the two boulés.
The Athens Area Interest Group held its first meeting on June 8, 2005, with Dr. Matthew McRae being elected President. After a series of meetings and discussions with local boulés and representatives from the Grand office, the Grand Executive Committee of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity approved the membership application of the Athens Area Interest Group, henceforth known as the Delta Psi Boulé of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity. On February 11, 2006, Delta Psi Boulé was officially chartered as the 115th member Boulé with the following members: Dr. Derrick P. Alridge; Dr. Rodney D. Bennett; Dr. L. Anthony Castenell, Jr.; Dr. Ivery D. Clifton; I. Kenneth Dious, Esq.; Hon. Ira Edwards, Jr.; Dr. Willie S. Farmer, Sr.; Mr. Rodney D. Garner; Dr. Talmadge C. Guy; Steve C. Jones, JSC.; Hon. Joseph H. Lumpkin, Sr.; Dr. Keith L. McRae; Dr. Matthew McRae, Jr.; Dr. Jack V. Powell; Howard B. Stroud (deceased); Dr. Bernard A. Wheatley; Dr. Brian N. Williams; Mr. Matthew M. Winston, Jr.
In 2009, Delta Psi Boulé added three new members: Dr. John H. Morrow, Jr.; Dr. Alonzo T. Sexton, II; Dr. Russell H. Studevan. In 2010, seven new members were inducted into Delta Psi: Mr. Warren B. Albert; Dr. Andre E. Bell; Mr. Sige Burden, Jr.; Dr. Maurice C. Daniels; Dr. Mark C. Dawkins; Dr. Robert A. Pratt; Mr. Richard J. White, III. As Delta Psi Boulé has grown in number over the past few years, so has its commitment to the ideals of its founders—equality, mutual respect, service, and brotherhood. Today, Delta Psi Boulé stands twenty-four strong, and all its members have achieved prominence and distinction in their chosen professions, ranging from medicine, law, education, business, university and hospital administration, sports management, and law enforcement. As a relatively new member boulé, Delta Psi is poised to make an indelible impression upon the people and the community it serves, and its members are very much aware of the rich legacy of community service and academic excellence they have inherited.
